At Harold Wood Primary School, the Year 2 National curriculum emphasises preparing children for the transition to junior school, fostering increased independence in their learning journey. Students engage with manipulatives to strengthen their mathematical understanding, delving into practical applications to deepen their skills. The children continue to use Read, Write Inc. for phonics lessons. However, reading comprehension takes a more prominent role, with whole class reading aimed at honing their ability to understand and analyse texts effectively. Through a holistic approach, the children in Year 2 are equipped with the necessary tools and confidence to thrive as they progress into Key stage 2.
